B. M. Masini received the Laurea degree (summa cum laude) in Telecommunications Engineering and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic, Computer Science, and Telecommunication engineering from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 2001 and 2005, respectively. Since 2002, she joined the research unit of Bologna of the Institute of Electronics, Computer and Telecommunication Engineering (IEIIT) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), where she now holds a permanent position as researcher. She is also with the Wilab group, which involves people from IEIIT-CNR, the Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering Guglielmo Marconi Department (DEI) of the University of Bologna, and the Engineering Department (ENDIF) of the University of Ferrara. He is also associated with gtti and CNIT, and member of IEEE.

She works in the area of wireless communication systems and her research interests are mainly focused on vehicular networks, facing several issues, from PHY and MAC aspects up to adaptive beaconing and real field trial implementations. Special attention has been paid to vehicular sensor networks for urban sensing and cellular network offloading, focusing now on vehicular 5G networks and applications. Research is also focused on physical layer aspects for relay assisted communications, energy harvesting, and on theoretical and experimental activities dealing with visible light communication (VLC).
She is involved (also with responsibilities) in several national and international projects dealing with Internet of vehicles and smart mobility, sensor networks, and VLC.
She is Editor of Elsevier Computer Networks. She has been Lead Guest Editor of Elsevier Ad Hoc Networks, Special Issue on Vehicular Networks for Mobile Crowd Sensing (2015), and she is Lead Guest Editor of Hindawi Mobile Information Systems, Special Issues on Connected Vehicles: Applications and Communication Challenges, and Editor of Journal of Intelligent Transportation and Urban Planning (ITUP, Bowen).
She acts as Reviewer for several journals and as TPC member for several conferences and Reviewer for the Italian Ministry of Economic Development (MISE).
She has been panelist at Anitec/Cotec/CNR event on Internet of Things and Manufacturing 4.0 in 2016 and at GTTI 2012 on Vehicular Networks, invited speaker at WINLAB - Rudgers University, USA on equalization techniques in MC-CDMA systems in 2006. 
She acted as designer and tester of the first Italian femtocell test bed in cooperation with Telecom Italia and Huawei (2011) and as consultant for Ferrovie dello Stato about interference between public and private 2G cellular systems on board of trains (2006).
She is author of several journals papers, conference papers, and some editorials and books chapters (full publications list).

Since 2006 she is adjunct Professor at the University of Bologna (teaching activities) for (2011- today) Sistemi di Telecomunicazioni T1 - 90 hours course, (2010-2011) Laboratorio di Telecomunicazioni M - 60 hours course, (2006-2011) Laboratorio di Telecomunicazioni T - 30 hours course, and (2008-2016) Master ENI - Oil & Gas. She has been/is advisor of more than 50 graduate students and co-advisor of a Ph.D. student at the University of Bologna.
