Marcello Ioppolo was born in Messina, Italy, in 1983. He received the Bachelor’s degree (2005) and the Master’s degree (2008, with magna cum laude) in telecommunications engineering both from the Alma Mater Studiorum, Università di Bologna, Faculty of Engineering. In 2008, he was a Visiting Student at the King’s College of London, where he carried on research activities on artificial intelligence based - scheduling algorithms for WiMax networks. In 2009 He received a II level master’s degree in techniques economics and management for Telecommunications and Media from the Università degli Studi di Padova.
His working experiences include:
  • Implementation of a machine-to-machine sensor platform for Accenture;
  • Analysis and simulation of the satellite physical layer to the purpose of developing an innovative machine-to-machine satellite modem for ARCES (Advanced Research Center on Electronic Systems for Information and Communication Technologies E. De Castro);
  • Implementation of a machine-to-machine geolocation GPRS/GPS device with dead reckoning system to the purposes of tracking persons and animals as in outdoor as in indoor locations.
In 2014 he joined the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR - National Research Council) holding a temporary position as Researcher at the I.E.I.I.T. institute (Istituto di Elettronica e Ingegneria dell'Informazione e delle Telecomunicazioni), where he is currently carrying on research activities on self-configurable wireless sensor networks to the purpose of tracking mobile targets in indoor environment.
